In all my life of visiting theme parks I have never been to SeaWorld Orlando! Can you believe that? So when we found out that we could get free tickets through my husband’s military discount we were really excited!
So we packed up the car and went with our other military family friends to Orlando!
FYI, you can totally do an Orlando day trip from the northern cities of Southwest Florida. We stay overnight in Orlando sometimes when we visit, but a lot of times we just leave in the morning early around 7 and get up there around 9:30. Then we stay for the day and leave sometime in the evening to come back home. Again, it would depend on where you’re at in Southwest Florida but it’s totally doable if you want to save on hotel fees.
We had a really great day at SeaWorld Orlando, so I’m going to break it down into categories to give you an idea of what to expect when you visit.
The Shows to see at SeaWorld Orlando
The Dolphin Show at SeaWorld Orlando
Our favorite attraction was by far the dolphin show. What a fun, happy show! The trainers swim with the dolphins and do tricks with the dolphins and it’s just a really fun show. Most of it is shaded so that was a little relief from the heat as well. We sat at the very top and we still had a great view of the show, so if you don’t get there super early, you will still be able to see the show.
The Shamu Show at SeaWorld Orlando
The Shamu show was fun. We liked the dolphin show better, but it was still need to see those race big beautiful animals doing tricks. The trainers do not swim with the whales anymore, but it was still a very neat show to see. and also there’s a really great drink station right outside the shampoo show and if you have the dining plan you can get as many drinks as you want there.
The Dining Plan at SeaWorld Orlando
We got the dining plan, but it was very pricey. So instead of getting one for all four of us, we got one adult meal plan and one child’s meal plan and we just shared the food and it fed us all day. This is a great way to save a little money.
As I mentioned earlier, there is a drink concession stand outside of the Shamu show and they allowed us to get as many drinks as we wanted with our dining plan, so that was a great place to rehydrate.
Overall, I think the dining plan is probably worth it because you spend a lot on individual meals and snacks. Just remember when you’re planning your trip to SeaWorld that you will be spending money on food and drinks no matter what.
The Rides at SeaWorld Orlando
There are so many different rides at SeaWorld. We enjoyed a lot of them. My kids were too short for a lot of the roller coasters which made my daughter sad because she is a thrill seeker, but the rides in the Sesame Street section were perfect for them and there were a couple water rides she could go on that she loved.
The roller coasters were great! The only ride I wouldn’t suggest is the penguin ride in Antarctica. We waited the longest for that because it had some technical difficulties, and honestly I didn’t think it was worth waiting for. You do get to see real penguins at the end, so that was kind of neat, but definitely not worth a long wait.
There was a roller coaster in the very back that was kind of hidden because there was no wait at all and it was really fun. It was an octopus themed rollercoaster called Kraken.
We loved the Sesame Street section of SeaWorld. It was so fun and they had an adorable parade! I thought this Sesame Street section was way better than the one at Busch Gardens. A definite must of you have young kids.
The Splash Area at SeaWorld
I searched and search on Google before we went to see if there was a splash area in the park and I could not find the answer. So I am writing to tell you that yes, there is a splash pad area in SeaWorld for the kids. So bring those bathing suits! It was absolutely packed in the afternoon, so my kids tripped and got hurt a couple times (that’s pretty typical for them though), but it was a great way to cool off for a little bit.
We loved watching the Sesame Street Parade. We got a close up view of all of our favorite characters. I think it goes through a couple times a day.
What Animals will you see at SeaWorld Orlando?
There are so many sea animals to see. We loved seeing the dolphins and orcas in the shows, but there were other animals to see a little more close up! We saw penguins (you can see them after you get off the ride Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin), sting rays that you can touch in the touch tank, and lots of aquarium animals.
What should and shouldn’t I bring to SeaWorld?
Should I bring a raincoat to SeaWorld?
Our stroller was packed with panchos and raincoats because we thought we would need them during the dolphin and Shamu show. This really wasn’t the case and also weed right off really quickly in the hot Florida weather. They are always nice to have if it rains, but if you’re only bringing them because of getting wet during the shows, it’s going to take up all of your space and I would just leave them at home.
Bring little portable fans
You know those battery operated portable fans? We used them all day during a visit to SeaWorld. We went at the end of May so it was very warm and the fans gave us a nice little breeze.
Can I bring snacks and drinks?
SeaWorld is a little more strict about bringing food and drinks in the park than other Florida theme parks. you can totally bring a snack bag and a drink bag into Disney and Busch Gardens, but SeaWorld is not so accommodating. This is the way we opted for the dining plan.
Definitely bring a a stroller into SeaWorld
If you have young kids, bring the stroller! My kids get really tired of walking after like 3 minutes so a stroller is a must for our family. There are a lot of designated stroller parking areas in the park if you are going on rides, etc.\
