My son is totally into dinosaurs! So for his 4th birthday we decided to do an experience instead of a birthday party and the four of us went to Dinosaur World for the first time.
You have probably seen Dinosaur World along 95! We have passed it for years and had never been, so this was exciting for us to try out.
I honestly didn’t think I was going to like it. No one really talks about it so I figured people must not go there because it’s lame…but we actually really loved it.
Here is a video tour of our experience at Dinosaur World (follow my YouTube channel for more tours here!)
Ticket prices are not that bad. Since we are a family on a budget we actually went during a time when they had a promotion going. If you dropped stuff off at their local Good Will you got free children’s tickets. So our kids got in free which was super helpful.
Adult ticket prices are $17.31
Children’s tickets are $11.88
Adult Excavation which includes admission and a Lucky Strike Gem bag for the Dino Gem Excavation is $23.60
Child Excavation which includes admission, fossil dig ticket, and a Lucky Strike gem bag for the Dino Gem Excavation is $19.48
There are tons of statue Dinosaurs all around the park. When you first walk out you are immediately welcomed by several species of pretend dinosaurs. We kind of joked that it was like the zoo only with fake animals.
I loved that there were a couple of boardwalks with pretend dinosaurs to look at while we walked. Each dinosaur was labeled so we could talk about their names and what they ate.
The only air conditioned spot was the gift shop, so if you can go in the beautiful winter months, I recommend it so you don’t get too hot.
There was a big playground area for the kids that was a lot of fun and tons of picnic tables for people having a birthday party.
Our favorite thing we did was in the very back of the park they had a pretend archeologist who talked about where in America we have found Dinosaur fossils and what an archery does.
Then there was another pretend archeologist who talked about the dinosaurs in the “Jurassic Park” movies and compared them to what they actually may have looked like. It was so interesting. Spoiler alert: Did you know that the velociraptors in the movie, “Jurassic Park” don’t look like that at all? They were much smaller and they definitely could not have turned door knobs. So interesting!
There were some extra things that we paid for inside the park like a geology dig. I have the prices broken down under admission. I thought it was fun and worth it.
We also did the gem mine and I also thought it was totally worth it. That was one of our favorite things about Dinosaur World too. The kids got to bring home bags of gems and then look at them and compare them. My husband loved doing that with them.
Food and Drinks
You can bring all the food and drinks you want inside the park! They have tons of great, shady spots for picnics. We saw one family who brought an entire cooler on wheels in.
They do not sell food or drinks there at all (except one vending machine), so definitely BYO (bring your own). And if it’s hot, you will need the liquids, so pack water!
What to bring
- As I mentioned, definitely bring drinks! It will get hot and you will get thirsty.
- Snacks or lunch!
- Strollers but only for itty bitty kids. My four and seven year olds were walking and running around the whole time so we didn’t use the stroller at all.
- A camera for those prehistoric poses!
- Cash for the gift shop (you can use your credit or debit card too)
- Portable fans in case it’s hot
That’s about it! We did the whole park in a little over two hours, so it’s definitely a day trip from Southwest Florida. We didn’t need much but we had a blast!
When to go
As I mentioned, the only place in the whole park that had air conditioning was the gift shop, so I highly suggest suggest going in the beautiful winter months! The summer will be hot, hot, hot!
Dinosaur World is located at 5145 Harvey Tew Rd. in Plant City in Florida. It’s open daily from 9AM to 5PM.
We had a great time. I wouldn’t necessarily get season passes, but we would definitely go again. We had a great time!
By the way, this was not a hosted trip…just wanted to let my readers know my opinion. As always, opinions are my own.
