We found a really fun place in Sarasota for families! I honestly can’t believe I have never been here before because we were really impressed. It’s called Big Cat Habitat near Celery Fields in Sarasota.
I will be honest, I haven’t watched this whole Netflix phenomena, “Tiger King.” So keep in mind that I am writing this post with my opinion on Big Cat Habitat without any knowledge about that case or the people that run this company.
We were pleasantly surprised by our experience at they can’t habitat. Here are some things we liked and a few thoughts about how to prepare for your visit…
Animals you will see at Big Cat Habitat
Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! We aren’t in Kansas, haha. But there are so many neat animals to see at Big Cat Habitat. From reptiles to big cats! We loved seeing all the animals. And there are lots of volunteers around to answer any questions you may have. It’s a really neat place!
The Petting Farm
The petting farm was the best! You can go right in with the goats and tortoises. Honestly, this was our favorite part. It was so neat! Here are a few of our pictures…
Shows you will see at Big Cat Habitat
They do an alligator show at 1PM and a big cat encounter show at 2PM. I believe this is every day, but make sure to check when you purchase your tickets.
There are also demonstrations that are free. One is a reptile review at 1PM and a wild animal encounter at 2PM.
What to bring when you go to Big Cat Habitat
You can bring a stroller, but it gets a little crowded in some areas, so if the kids can walk or if you have a baby carrier I would suggest using that.
You will need a hat and/or sunscreen because you will be in full sun in a lot of the exhibits. Most of Big Cat Habitat is outside so plan for whatever weather might be that day.
A camera! There are lots of great photo ops! Check out a few of ours here….
The hours are limited at Big Cat Habitat. They are open Wednesday through Sunday from 12-4PM. We spent at least two hours there and could have spent more time, so make sure you plan accordingly.
There are membership options and then also just one day admission options.
By the way, Celery Field is right next to Big Cat Habitat, which I mentioned earlier and that is a unique park in Sarasota that you should check out before or after your visit to Big Cat Habitat! It has pretty much the only hill in Sarasota with hiking trails a d a beautiful view at the top. Check out our pictures and video here!
